In Search of Lara Elizabeth Lee

… an adoption story

About our Search

My Search for our daughter.

I have often said that searching for a sibling that was relinquished for adoption is like looking for the needle in a haystack. The only difference from the proverb is that you need to find the right haystack first and then you need to figure out what kind of needle it is before you can start to look.

I began looking for Jennifer (Lara) the day she was born. In 1968 the rights a birth father had in regards to the custody of a sibling was next to nothing. All rights were given the mother and as such she was at the mercy of authority forcing more pressure “to do the right thing” than she could ever dream of handling. She made the only choice she could at the time and her family is in full support of her.

We , as a family , will always search. The intensity wanes from time to time but the need to find never does. Governments felt the pressure to open records to the adult adoptee and birthparents and finally gave us the right to know our roots and to know the well being of our offspring.
