The beauty of retirement is in the little things….gardening, hiking on a new forest trail or a familiar one  or just cleaning up at home. Or today, when my soul draws me to a creative gesture.  As I come into my own in this new stage of life, I am learning to truly enjoy being in the moment with my chores…to be grateful for my health as I become aware of every little movement and thought.  While doing these jobs, my thoughts rove back to my youth, to my early years as a young man, and to present day.  It truly is a wonderful Zen state….and I love it. But I also fear it.

Retirement is a time of rebirth and control while at the same time is a time of counting down. I have never been one to put value in numbers but it seems that to turn 65 it opens many doors and you are forced to pay attention to the number. The race from the 65th line is one that you want to run as slowly as possible because the last one crossing the finish line is the winner.
